FAQ’s

What is the mission of Williams Personalized Care?

Williams Personalized Care aims to provide high-quality medical care with an emphasis on proactive disease prevention and comprehensive health management. The practice focuses on nurturing strong physician-patient relationships and ensuring patient satisfaction with all aspects of care.

How is Williams Personalized Care different from traditional medicine?

Williams Personalized Care offers a more personalized approach compared to traditional medicine. In a traditional practice with nearly 3,000 patients, time constraints often limit the ability to address patient concerns fully. In this new model, patients receive timely appointments and extended consultation time when needed. Dr. Williams and the team assist in coordinating care with specialists, arranging necessary tests, and advocating for patients in every step of their healthcare journey.

Will Dr. Williams still be on staff at any hospitals?

Yes, Dr. Williams is affiliated with Torrance Memorial Hospital and Little Company of Mary. His affiliation with these hospitals will not be affected by the transition to his new practice.

Will the office location change?

No, Dr. Williams will remain in the same building.

Who will cover for Dr. Williams when he is unavailable?

Dr. Williams strives to be available 24/7. In rare cases when he is unavailable, a trusted colleague from his current call group will cover for him. Another qualified physician may also be designated if needed to ensure continuity of care.

Do patients still need health insurance if they enroll in Williams Personalized Care?

Yes, patients should continue their health insurance coverage, as Williams Personalized Care is a primary care and endocrine medical practice, not a replacement for health insurance. Patients are encouraged to maintain HSA, PPO, Medicare, or other insurance programs.

Will insurance still be billed for office visits?

Yes, Williams Personalized Care will bill patients’ insurance companies directly for office visits and other services. If applicable, co-pays will be collected at the time of service. Office visits, excluding the Annual Wellness Exam, are not included in the annual fee.

What happens if Dr. Williams is not a provider for my insurance plan?

If Dr. Williams is not a provider under a patient’s insurance plan, the practice will assist in referring patients to in-network specialists and facilities for any necessary tests or consultations. Patients will be billed at in-network rates for these services, and fees at Williams Personalized Care have been adjusted to help offset any additional costs.

Is Dr. Williams still a participating provider for Medicare?

Yes, Dr. Williams’ status with Medicare will remain unchanged. He will continue to bill Medicare and any supplemental insurers as required by law.

Does Dr. Williams bill Medicare for the annual fee?

No, the annual fee covers services not reimbursed by Medicare or other insurers. Dr. Williams will bill Medicare for sick visits and other covered services, while the Annual Wellness Exam and other amenities are included in the annual fee.

Will private insurance reimburse the annual fee?

It is unlikely that private insurance will reimburse the annual fee, but some Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) may cover all or part of the fee. Patients are encouraged to check with their insurance providers or plan managers for details.

Is the annual fee tax deductible?

The annual fee is considered a medical expense and may be deductible. Patients should consult with a tax advisor to determine whether the fee qualifies as a deductible expense based on their individual circumstances.

What about lab work, x-rays, specialist fees, and hospitalization?

The annual fee covers membership, the Annual Wellness Exam, and other services outlined on the Highlights & Details page. Additional services, such as lab work, x-rays, and specialist visits, will be billed separately by the performing entity.

Does the Annual Exam include a well-woman exam?

Yes, the Annual Wellness Exam includes routine gynecological care, such as screening pap smears and other well-woman services.

What should I do if I have an emergency?

In the event of a life-threatening emergency, patients should call 911 immediately and then contact Williams Personalized Care for assistance with emergency care coordination. Dr. Williams is available around the clock to handle urgent issues, and patients are encouraged to reach out before visiting urgent care facilities.

What if I get sick while traveling or on vacation?
For life-threatening emergencies, patients should call 911 first, then contact Dr. Williams. For minor illnesses, patients should reach out to the practice directly. Most prescriptions can be filled nationwide, and Dr. Williams can assist with coordinating care or finding local resources if needed. If hospitalization is required, Dr. Williams will work with the attending physician to ensure continuity of care.
What if I need to see a specialist or surgeon?
Patients are free to see any specialist of their choice, but Dr. Williams is available to assist in choosing the right specialist and coordinating the visit. This ensures that the appropriate specialists are consulted and that medical records are provided ahead of the appointment for a more efficient visit.
Will I still be required to pay the annual fee if I don’t use your services?

Yes, the annual fee grants membership in Williams Personalized Care, regardless of whether services are used throughout the year. The fee does not cover medical services but ensures access to the practice’s unique benefits. Patients are encouraged to take advantage of the services offered, including the Annual Wellness Exam.

What happens if I move away after enrolling?

If a patient moves out of the area, the annual fee will be pro-rated. However, if the Annual Wellness Exam has already been completed, no refund will be provided. Medical records will be transferred to the new physician upon receiving a signed release, as required by law.
